Memorial Service for Barb Leiden, N1UI (SK)

N1UI (SK)A Memorial Service for Barb Leiden, N1UI (SK) will be held at the Chatham Unitarian Church (UUMH) on Main St. on Sunday, May 15, at 1:30 P.M. Parking is behind the Orpheum Theater. A portion of the hour-long service will be devoted to anyone who wishes to say a few words commemorating Barb’s life. A short funny story would be especially appreciated.

 

 


Barbara Gene (Griztbach, Barton) Leiden of South Chatham, MA died of an accident, Janu ary 8, 2016 at age 69. Barbara was the beloved wife of Robert, mother of Vin cent Barton of Valatie, NY and step-mother of Adam Leiden of Ballston Lake, NY. She had four adoring grandchildren, Quinn and Maggie Barton of Valatie, NY and Sarah and Jeremiah Leiden of Hudson Falls, NY. She is survived by her sisters Georgia Smolkis of Prospect, CT, Sherry Cappallo of Corsicana, TX, Melody Tolentino of Mililani, HI and brother Gene of Pottersville, NY. She was predeceased by her brother, Louis Gritzbach, Jr. Educated at Albany State University, Barbara taught English for 33 years in Schenectady, NY at the middle and high school level before retiring in 2002. Barbara was widely loved for her kindness and generosity of spirit, her compassion for others and her passion for service. She was a licensed amateur extra class radio operator (call letters N1UI,) and member of the Barnstable Amateur Radio Club, an active member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and Chatham Lighthouse Keeper, a volunteer at Red Cross blood drives and a blood donor, a frequent volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity Restore in Yarmouth and a helper at Christmastime for the Salvation Army. Barbara gave medical rides and distributed food to seniors for local senior centers. Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod.
